BOARD OF DIRECTORS

With a vast array of international experience serving the needs of impoverished communities, Sibusiso's dedicated group of volunteers emanate from the medical, pharmaceutical, business, education, human rights and humanitarian fields.


Sheila Davis, DNP, ANP-BC, Executive Committee President, is an Adult Nurse Practitioner who has worked in the field of HIV/AIDS for over twenty years in a variety of roles. Presently Sheila is an assistant-professor at the MGH Institute for Health Professions and is a Clinician at Massachusetts General Hospital Infectious Diseases Unit. Sheila is one of the co-founders of Sibusiso.

Christopher Shaw, RN, BSN, Executive Committee Vice President, is a registered nurse in the Infectious Disease Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital, and will be the ANAC Boston Chapter President Elect in 2009.  Chris worked extensively with sub-Saharan African HIV treatment sites for the past 6 years, assisting in their clinic preparations to start treatment and in training nurses, health care workers and community activists. Chris is one of the co-founders of Sibusiso.

Barbara Cox, Executive Committee Treasurer, has worked in pharmaceutical and medical device clinical research since 1992. Experienced in HIV pharmaceutical and cardiac medical device clinical research, Ms. Cox is also trained in the field of human subject research protections, and has been the administrator of both a community-based, independent IRB as well as a health center based IRB.

Sara E. Dolan Looby, PhD, APRN, Executive Committee Board Secretary, is a Research Nurse Practitioner at the Program in Nutritional Metabolism at MGH. She is a group leader for the Bridges for Life Medical Group at the Boston Living Center and is a co-founder and an instructor of HIV College at Cambridge Cares about AIDS.  Sara has a BS in Nursing from University of Vermont, holds a master's degree in Nursing, and an Adult Nurse Practitioner certification with a sub-specialty in HIV from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.  Sara recently completed her PhD in nursing at Boston College. Her research include HIV & metabolics,and adherence among women with HIV.

Stephanie Ahmed, DNP, FNP-BC, Board Member, is a Nurse Practitioner working for both Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospital. With a background in public health, she has acted as a consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health AIDS Bureau. Additionally, she has done HIV related work for community based ASO's, the Massachusetts Corrections system, and served as co-investigator doing HIV related clinical research at MGH and MIT.

Lynn Mazzaferro, Board Member, is a Therapeutic Specialist for Gilead Sciences. Lynn has been in the pharmaceutical industry for over 7 years. Prior to the pharmaceutical industry Lynn owned and operated a gymnastic school where her passion for teaching and business evolved. She is an active athlete who now participates in HIV/AIDS fundraisers to bring awareness to those infected and affected with HIV/AIDS.

Eva OBrien, Board Member, Youth Advisor, is a senior at Brookline High School where she is active many youth driven justice organizations including the Students Action for Justice and Education (SAJE) and STAND Dafur Coalition.  Eva works closely with community outreach and youth programs in South Africa and the Sinikethemba Choir.

Zinhle Thabethe, Board Member, has many years of experience working in HIV/AIDS/TB in South Africa and is a nationally recognized spokesperson in the HIV/AIDS treatment movement.  Currently she is the Outreach and Community Director of a large TB/HIV education and community outreach program in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.. In addition, she is a lead vocalist for the Sinikithemba Choir.

Ryan Ahern, BA, Board Member, is presently enrolled in University of Washington Medical School, and was most recently working for the iTEACH program at Edendale Hospital, in Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa. Previously he worked at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Infectious Disease Unit on the clinical side of HIV vaccine trials. Ryan spent fall 2006 in residence with the Mahlungulu Foundation, one of Sibusiso's in-country partners, in MBizana, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Kathryn Barron, MSN, ANP, has been working at Fenway Community Health Center (FCHC) as a nurse case manager. She has been involved with the HIV/AIDS and LGBT communities in Boston over the past year. She is transitioning to the role of Adult Nurse Practitioner with a focus on HIV/AIDS primary care at FCHC.  Katie spent the summer of 2006 in Ghana incorporating HIV prevention and peer education through traditional West African Dance and Drum outreach programs throughout Accra and surrounding villages.
